Book Versus Movie – The Time Traveler’s Wife

One of my all-time favorite books is The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. It’s an absolutely beautiful, unique story that is at least a three tissue tome.

I made the mistake of reading it while I was on a trip to California to visit some friends–I finished it shortly before we landed back home, and I’m not sure my then-boyfriend (now husband) expected such an enthusiastic and tearful greeting. I have long hoped that they’d make a movie out of it, because it seemed like a story that could be well-told visually. But, now that it’s here, I’m a little apprehensive because I usually hate the movie versions of my favorite books. I refuse to see P.S. I Love You because the trailer made it seem like a happy go-lucky romantic comedy–far from the deeply touching book that I read.

Even so, I know I’ll be seeing The Time Traveler’s Wife this August when it hits theaters. Expect an updated post comparing the movie to the book! For now, here’s the first trailer for the movie, starring Rachel McAdams and Eric Bana. I think Rachel will do a great job portraying Clare, but I’m just not sure about Eric Bana as Henry.
